Made for better mornings

Not all eco cups are created equal

Some say they’re compostable... but only under strict commercial conditions. Others hide behind big words like aqueous lining or bioplastics — basically just fancy terms for synthetic materials that still end up in landfill.

We thought that was rubbish. So we made something that wasn’t.

We’ve re-thought paper cups from the ground up, creating a truly home compostable cup, right here in NZ.

The dirt on eco cups

Every year, Kiwis toss millions of plastic cups and lids — most of which end up in landfill, even the ‘compostable’ ones.

That’s because, due to their synthetic linings, most compostable cups are only commercially compostable — which means unless they’re collected, sorted, and sent to the right facility, they don’t break down properly.

What many people don't realise is that the standard takeaway coffee cup with plastic, hidden or otherwise, will never truly decompose.

Imagine the difference we could make if we swapped this small ritual for something that celebrates the circular economy. It all stacks up.

The takeaway that gives back

Little Rotter paper cups are made with 100% natural materials such as tapioca-resin coating (biodegradable). These natural polymers prevent your cup from going soggy while you’re enjoying your brew, but are designed to break down just like food scraps - no special conditions, no industrial heat, no microplastics left behind.

Just an attractive, sustainable alternative to traditional plastics (hidden or otherwise).

When something’s made well, it ends well

Introducing Little Rotter

  • Certified 100% Paper™ base

Responsibly sourced and strong enough to handle your long black, flat white or oat latte with ease.

  • Naturally lined

Most “compostable” coffee cups use materials such as PLA (a bioplastic made from corn), PE plastics, petrochemicals or aqueous coatings that still contain synthetic chemicals, and actually only decompose under industrial processing. Ours don’t. We use 100% natural materials — safe for worms, gardens and guilt-free sipping.

  • 100% Paper™ lid

Yep, the lid too. No plastic, no disclaimers in the fine print. Just a clever little cap made from food-grade, natural ingredients.

  • Made in New Zealand

Buying local cuts transport emissions, backs Kiwi jobs and gives you fresher goods with less packaging. Win-win-win.

Drink like you give a sip.

If you're a café owner, retailer or event organiser who gives a damn, Little Rotter is your chance to choose better.
